Because the wifi worked when I was at the computer store. You can skip this part and read on if this is your scenario.
I've just spent the last four months (off and on) trying to figure this problem out. Next, confirm that the router isn't buried or blocked behind large objects that might cause the signal to degrade faster than it normally would. I'm not sure why it won't connect, i've reset the laptop several times now but it still won't work.
