Symptoms: Visa Home on emachines laptop - boots okay then goes to black screen with cursor and disk activity but nothing else I had tried everything else F8 / Bios / I started it saturday and would run up to the microsoft corporation scrolling bar and then just stay on a black screen with the power light staying green. Not sure if that will work though. Bottom line, there was a boot problem that fixed itself when I formatted the recovery partition. I'll share where and what I've done to get out of the jam. My window is preinstalled from Manufacture Dell Company. Imagine if everyone actually stuck to that rule??? I am not clear on all the details about that, but apparently, we never used a disc to begin with. Choose the System restore option. 5. The service tag is 297VPF1. The machine is under warranty, so I will definitely be taking it back to the shop on Tuesday if it still won't work. But after reading this thread, realized that I have also been experiencing black screen issues. I connect s-video cable from laptop to my TV and I can see my desktop on the TV screen.
When you enter Safe mode you should then shut your computer down correctly. It was a custom model with the following specs:Intel Core 2 Duo 2 GB RAM @ 800 mhz512 NVIDIA 8600 GeForce Go100 GB Hard drive (SATA I think) @ 7200 RPMWindows If I do, I'll come back and let you know.So, like I said, the computer manufacturers and Microsoft didn't do their homework before pawning off this un-perfected product on us. Pressing F8 or F11 doesn't work.
